In Texas there was a ruling passed saying that a dependent could be covered up to age 25 under their parents plan. This means that the dependent does not have to prove student status to remain on a health insurance plan in Texas as a dependent. There are exceptions, such as if the plan is not fully insured and may be self-funded by the company. In this case this regulation or ruling may not be written in the contract.
If a dependent on a group plan has lost coverage due to turning age 25 they may be able to continue their insurance benefits on Texas State Continuation for an additional 6 months. At the end of the Texas State Continuation, they will need to seek out other health insurance coverage such as an individual health insurance policy.

Many times pregnancy is not covered under an individual medical insurance policy. It is however, many times covered under a group insurance policy. There was a regulation passed a few years ago that made pregnancy not a pre-existing condition. This means that coverage on a group insurance plan in many cases cannot be denied to a woman who is pregnant. Also, the real “kicker” here is having the child/ the birth of the child is a qualifying event and in some cases the birth might be covered even if the mother was not previously on the group plan. At that time of course the mother would need to get on the group plan and immediately begin paying premiums. If you plan on having a child there are many things you must take in consideration when dealing with health insurance. Please refer to your carrier policy and guidelines to make sure you get the proper care and use of your plan benefits.

The term health insurance is a very broad term. We must be more specific and deal with medical insurance. Health insurance could also mean dental, vision, or other types of coverage. Specifically when dealing with individual medical insurance the carrier in which an applicant has applied for coverage can be declined. Individual medical insurance is approved based on what underwriting with the carrier determined by reviewing the health insurance application/ questionnaire. It is a simple concept. The carrier must make enough money to pay other claims from other participants. Underwriting may have certain guidelines to follow in order to approve an applicant so they can make an educated guess that this medical insurance applicant is truly insuring against a risk and they do not have a medical condition currently. That is not insurance. Insurance is insuring against a risk. Many people forget this when talking or dealing with health insurance.
Group medical insurance is similar in the aspect that an underwriter must review applicants in order to approve a group/ company for health insurance benefits. A major difference when dealing with group health insurance is when an applicant applies for coverage they will not be denied coverage if they are part of a group. They must be covered. The concept here is the health insurance premiums of the whole group are used to offset any medical condition of a few or one employee. Now, a group can be denied. Small groups usually cannot be denied coverage but just given a very big load or high rate from an insurance carrier underwriter if their applications may have many conditions which will cost the carrier a lot of money in claims. Larger groups, usually over 50 can be denied when they are getting health insurance quotes. If an insurance company underwriter reviews a group’s applications and see that the group has limited medical conditions many times this will be where the groups rates may be less than an individual health insurance rate. At this same time, the health insurance benefits can be better as well.

If you currently are on a group health insurance policy or group health insurance plan and have your dependents on your plan, you might be able to save a lot of money. Many employers pay the employee only cost of health insurance. This leaves the dependent cost of health insurance up to the employee. There are many times when young dependents can get approved on an individual health insurance policy for a cheaper health insurance rate or cost per month. Although the family health insurance with the company may have different benefits, it may be worth it to have family health insurance with the dependents on individual health insurance policies and then the employee to remain on the company plan. Many times this saves the family insurance cost hundreds of dollars! This does not occur all the time, but I see it more and more often as health insurance rates increase.

Once you have chosen health insurance plans such as a medical insurance plan and a dental insurance plan, you will need to complete a health insurance application. Online applications – To apply online go through the MyIndividual.com individual health insurance website. You will need to remember the plan name you selected before entering their website. You can choose the plan again at their website if you have not chosen the plan at the MyIndividual.com health insurance website. Continue to follow the prompts at the health insurance carrier website to complete your health insurance application process. It can take anywhere from 7 days – 28 days to hear back if you have been approved. Many times it takes closer to 7 days turnaround.
Apply by mail – You can apply by mail with many of the health insurance carriers. You will need to select the individual health insurance plans with the best insurance quotes and rates of your choice. Then, you will need to print the online application which is offered at the MyIndividual.com individual health insurance website unless the carrier requests online application only. Please make sure to print these applications in color! When applying by mail, make sure to complete every section and sign and date where indicated on the application. This will help the application process go faster when you submit your individual medical application to the individual health insurance carrier where the underwriter will review your application. You will need to mail the application to the address which should be listed on the insurance application. You will need to mail in your full payment for your first month estimated premium as well. On some applications you may be able to list your credit card information if you would like to pay health insurance premiums by credit card. Once the health insurance application has been mailed to the health insurance carrier, it will usually take a few days longer before you are contacted whether you are approved or declined for health insurance coverage.

Individual health insurance is coverage which may be medical, dental, vision, and other types of insurance plans. When many people refer to health insurance, they are really meaning to say medical insurance. In order to get health insurance individuals must complete health insurance applications for a health insurance carrier. These must be submitted to the carrier to get health insurance quotes. These health insurance quotes are the health insurance rates in which the carrier will offer health insurance coverage or a chosen health insurance plan. When an individual health insurance application reaches the health insurance carrier, their underwriting department will review the application and either approve or deny the applicant coverage for the desired rate and/ or plan specified.
Individual health insurance offers coverage for an individual, dependents, or a family. Of course individual health insurance quotes vary upon who is chosen to be covered. The individual insurance rates will also vary depending on gender and age. MyIndividual.com was created to offer affordable Texas health insurance to individuals and families via the internet. Something very important to understand. When searching for a low cost health insurance plan or an affordable health insurance plan, your rates are no different whether you go from one website or to another website. They may be quoted a little different, but the rates are finalized only after you have submitted application and undergone insurance carrier underwriting. The insurance carrier underwriters determine your final rates, not websites, and not agents. We can only offer you an affordable health insurance quote.
