Applying for Individual Health Insurance Coverage

Once you have chosen health insurance plans such as a medical insurance plan and a dental insurance plan, you will need to complete a health insurance application. Depending on the health insurance carrier you may either apply online or apply for health insurance coverage by printing and completing an application and then mailing it to the health insurance carrier.

Online applications – To apply online go through the MyIndividual.com individual health insurance website. You can choose the carrier you desire which offers the best insurance rates and plan benefits for your needs. You simply click on apply online with carrier icon which will be available only to those health insurance carriers who offer online applications. You will need to remember the plan name you selected before entering their website. You can choose the plan again at their website if you have not chosen the plan at the MyIndividual.com health insurance website. Continue to follow the prompts at the health insurance carrier website to complete your health insurance application process. It can take anywhere from 7 days – 28 days to hear back if you have been approved. Many times it takes closer to 7 days turnaround.

Apply by mail – You can apply by mail with many of the health insurance carriers. You will need to select the individual health insurance plans with the best insurance quotes and rates of your choice. Then, you will need to print the online application which is offered at the MyIndividual.com individual health insurance website unless the carrier requests online application only. Please make sure to print these applications in color! When applying by mail, make sure to complete every section and sign and date where indicated on the application. This will help the application process go faster when you submit your individual medical application to the individual health insurance carrier where the underwriter will review your application. You will need to mail the application to the address which should be listed on the insurance application. You will need to mail in your full payment for your first month estimated premium as well. On some applications you may be able to list your credit card information if you would like to pay health insurance premiums by credit card. Once the health insurance application has been mailed to the health insurance carrier, it will usually take a few days longer before you are contacted whether you are approved or declined for health insurance coverage.
