Pregnancy Coverage When Dealing with Health Insurance
Many times pregnancy is not covered under an individual medical insurance policy. It is however, many times covered under a group insurance policy. There was a regulation passed a few years ago that made pregnancy not a pre-existing condition. This means that coverage on a group insurance plan in many cases cannot be denied to a woman who is pregnant. Also, the real “kicker” here is having the child/ the birth of the child is a qualifying event and in some cases the birth might be covered even if the mother was not previously on the group plan. At that time of course the mother would need to get on the group plan and immediately begin paying premiums. If you plan on having a child there are many things you must take in consideration when dealing with health insurance. Please refer to your carrier policy and guidelines to make sure you get the proper care and use of your plan benefits.
